FAQs

The cake smash photo session fee of $295 includes an approximately hour long session at my dedicated studio in Freshwater, on Sydney's Northern Beaches. The session fee covers the photographer's time and talent, full access to all props, decorations and limited outfits as well as a personalised 10x10" montage and two 5x7" prints. Additional prints start from $40 for a 5x7" print and wall art, albums and digital packages are also available. Full pricing is available for inspection on my website to allow for complete pricing transparency. You are welcome to bring along your own cake to accomodate any food sensitivities and the session fee reduces to $225.
A typical cake smash session lasts around an hour and includes three distinct sections being traditional/"clean" portraits, the cake smash itself and finally a child's size clean up in a claw-foot bubble bath or tub. This allows for three opportunities to get beautiful, fun-filled images. You are invited to be involved in the design of the session and can select from a wide range of backdrops, decorations and cake designs. I have many examples of previous sessions on my website gallery which you are encouraged to review. Siblings and family members are welcome (indeed encouraged) to be involved.
The photography studio is cleaned and sanitised before and after sessions and all props and equipment is cleaned regularly. The backdrop used is a paper roll that is single use and therefore hygienic for cake smashes. The cakes that I provide are sourced from a local, professional baker using a commercial kitchen. Food sensitivities are, however, not accomodated and it is recommended that in the instance of allergies that you be responsible for the provision of the cake which attracts a discount to the session fee. It is also possible to exchange the cake and opt for a donut smash, fruit smash or confetti session if you prefer.
It is not uncommon that baby's can be a little wary to smash and eat the cake. So long as your baby is comfortable and happy to explore and play with the cake, then you can still be assured of getting beautiful memories of their session. After 12 years of photographing cake smashes, I have more than a few tips and tricks up my sleeve and it may be as simple as giving them a spoon or whisk to minimise the unusual sensation of the icing on their hands, or hiding some more familiar food such as blueberries at the back of the cake. Sometimes, it becomes a family affair and the whole family are drawn into the fun. By offering three distinct parts of the session being "clean portraits, the cake smash itself and the bubble bath clean-up, there is a much higher possibility of getting the happy, smiley shots that you are no doubt hoping for.
Many parents choose to dress their child in a specially purchased outfit that matches the theme of the cake smash session. However, some parents prefer to have their child dress in just a diaper cover for a more natural and messy experience. You are invited to discuss your requirements with me prior to your session. The studio does offer a limited number of outfits, hats and accessories. I suggest that two outfits are brought along to the session: one for the portraits and another for the cake smash. A change of clothes for adults is also recommended as no-one generally emerges from a cake smash without a good amount of icing on their clothing!
