Description

My family sessions are fun, spontaneous and relaxed. I want to show the love and connection of your family. I offer clients help on styling the shoot, what to wear and can also suggest a variety of locations for an optimal result.

Photographer Profile - Susan Bradfield

I am a Melbourne based photographer working in Brighton, bayside Melbourne.

From start to finish, my photography sessions are not just a photo shoot, they are a special experience you will remember fondly forever.
I aim to create honest, timeless images that show connection, emotion and soul.

Once a physiotherapist, and a ‘professional’ expat who has lived in London, Shanghai and Zurich, I am now proud to have made the transition to professional photography. As a mother of two, I understand the invaluable and important legacy of photographic memories and passionately believe in the importance of documenting our lives. My goal is to capture connection and emotion: of beautiful moments when loved ones are together.

Whether it is a newborn, maternity, family shoot, or a headshot, photography is my way of capturing a life’s story in a moment that will last for generations to come.

FAQs

I encourage clients to choose an outdoor location that has meaning to them eg a park they routinely go to with the kids, or a favourite beach. This adds more meaning to your images and memories. Sometimes clients are stumped with a location, and have a nice ist of different places around bayside Melbourne where I am familiar with the light and hidden little spots to shoot. Also, the studio is also always an option if you prefer that look.
It may sounds superficial but what you all wear can make or break your photo, so I always stress to clients how important it is to spend some time considering wardrobe. I always tell mum to choose her outfit first and then coordinate family around her choice. Choosing similar tones or colours works really well. I am always on hand prior to sessions to help clients with their choices.
Bring your kids well fed, well rested and dressed in layers to a session. Cold, hungry and tired kids are obviously not going to find the session enjoyable and are less likely to listen and cooperate. Bribery is fantastic, but please not with food during the shoot (yes, this happens). I always aim to make sessions fun and enjoyable for kids of all ages, (partners included).
This is age dependent, but usually 60-90 minutes. I am aware of kids and partners and perhaps lower tolerance levels to photos so I try and keep session as short and sweet as possible while still obtaining some variety and choice in your final gallery.
After a session, I take 2-3 weeks (on average) to finely edit your gallery with around 30-40 images. You will then be invited back to my studio for a viewing where you can choose your favourite images and design and purchase any wall art for your home.
